Pre-Ramadhaan: Creating the Right Mindset

Pre-Ramadhaan: Creating The Right Mindset

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

There are two basic requirements in order to benefit from and truly understand the Qur’an.
• Academic Requirements (knowledge of tafseer, Arabic, history etc)
• Pyschological/Spiritual requirements

The first is a lot easier to acquire than the second, one can study within a short period and acquire these requirements in order to understand the Qur’an.

For the second one; it’s a life-long struggle. It is understanding and reminding oneself each time of the reason & intention behind it.

The common reason or intention is “for Allah’s guidance”
This means we understand that every single day, every single moment in our lives we would be presented with choices,
- should I stay in bed or should I wake up?
-Should I look there or should I look down?
-Should I go there or should I stay back?
-Should I talk back or should I keep quiet?
-Should I earn this money this way or should I look for another means? and many more.
And we would have to make a choice.

So it means that we are hoping that Allah empowers us by the Qur’aan to make the right choices. That’s what it means to have the correct mindset and intention in order to understand the Qur’aan.

And it's a life-long struggle because its going to be a battle between relentless shaytaan, our Nafs and our desires. But when we become strong enough to make the right choices, to choose the right instead of wrong more often than not, according to the Qur’an, then it means we have truly established a good relationship with the Qur’an and are truly benefitting from it.

May Allah grant us the understanding of the Qur'aan and make us of those who's affairs are guided by it.

To be continued in sha Allah…
